LIGHTS CAMERA ACTION

"You countrier than a muthafucka’, man. Never in a million years would I imagine salt goes on Watermelon," the photographer calls me out, placing the camera on the stand.

The outpour of salt continues over the bowl of fruit. "Don't knock it til you try it," I reply, then drop the watermelon cubes on my palette, savoring the sweet and salty mixture.

I gaze up and down the street filled with luxury cars, camera crews, and photo props. Today isn't about spitting bars behind a booth. Instead, we're focusing on building a brand. The Shooter Ro way! It starts with the telling of a story about a talented young man from Atlanta, Georgia, who is now beginning to take over Brooklyn, New York, with his southern roots. MTV had a way of spinning a story to expand their vision on their new hit show, 'Living the Life.'

"Let me see your face, baby," a beauty with a caramel complexion hovers over me with her makeup kit getting my skin right for the photoshoot. Then another woman places a chair behind me, urging me to sit as she adds products to my mini textured fro. On the other hand, Ahmad schools me on my next steps in connecting with my fans.

"Look, I understand you're not into Facebook or YouTube. But on the real, those are two necessary platforms to grow your brand and make it easy for your fans to follow your journey."

"I have MySpace. I just don't be on it all the time."

"Myspace?" Ahmad clowns, scowling like no other.

I snort, "I know it's not poppin' like it used to be, but a few years back, I was forced to sign up since many of the rappers I wrote for promoted their music on the site. It gave me access to another world I may not have tapped into. Hell, a lot of my professional contacts found me on MySpace."

"My point exactly. Now the new shit is Facebook and YouTube. Let's set you up on both, and I'll have my marketing person get on board."

"That's cool, but I have someone in mind already to help me with my image."

His profile holds a questioning glare, "But do they already have experience working with entertainers?"

"She can get the experience by working with me." I'm up on my feet after getting freshened up by the styling crew.

“Nah, you wanna get with somebody who already has their foot in the game. Things are gonna be moving real fast for you, and you can’t take a chance with a newbie. Not on this.”

"Give me a minute," I tell Ahmad as I think about what he said and trapeze across the newly paved street to answer my cell for the person I was just thinking about for the job.

"What's up, Chels?" I hit the button to answer the Skype video call.

"Shooter, what da fuck were you thinking?"
