The Fourth Principle:

The Bipolarity

All changes take place and are revitalised by interaction with its counterparts, even the so-called balance …

— George Ohsawa

Bipolarity is a basic characteristic inherent to our world and all manifestations generated by the dynamic interaction of this polar force, which determines the continuous change existing in the conformation of the universe itself.

The supplemental coupling of the positive and the negative invades the whole universe, and their opposition provides the required dynamic tension for each movement and change.

All phenomena in the universe can be analyzed in terms of positive and negative, meaning that everything is relative in this constantly changing world—the polar force of magnets and that of the terrestrial globe, a phenomenon known to all through physics.

The universe itself is bipolar, as it is everything in it. Every foundation or structure has two poles, and every phenomenon or function can exist in two contradictory ways—for example, male and female, day and night, birth and death, heat and cold, inside and outside, love and hate, war and peace. The polar force is the force that sets everything in motion, without which there would be no day without night, birth without death, peace without war, and male without female.

As noted, the polar phenomenon exists in everything, starting from simple material structures through to extremely complex cosmic phenomena. It can be observed in the nuclear atom comprised of neutrons and protons; in the nucleus of the living cell manifested in the attraction between the DNA spirals, causing them to fuse with each other; in the living cell where it appears as the polar difference between the nucleus and the cytoplasm and between cytoplasm and the extracell cytoplasm that can be measured and is known as membrane potential. The contrasts between them provide the dynamic tension needed for every movement and change and are the source of the appearance of life.

The dynamics of change are determined by the amount of energy in both poles (positive and negative) and the new forces that are created in the change, which in turn join each other to form other, new energy stages (i.e., the combinations of their two poles create the energy forces, and the interaction of these forces creates the manifested universe). Polar forces are therefore reciprocally independent, constantly interactive, and potentially exchangeable.

The polarity phenomenon is found from the simplest material structure up to the complex cosmic phenomena. In fact, we can perceive it in the atom, where we find the nucleus comprising two magnetic poles, the positive one—neutron—and the negative one—proton. In biology, we know of the presence of the polar force which is clearly manifested during cellular multiplication similar to magnetic lines formed between two opposite poles.
