Chapter 6

Royce

“Why the fuck do you keep playing with me, Royce? Damn.”

Alex was sitting on the toilet, taking a shit, when I played a prank on her. It all started when she asked me to bring her a toilet paper roll out of the linen closet. Alex always forgot to put toilet paper in the bathroom. She didn’t know I’d purchased a fake roll of tissue that didn’t tear from Amazon.

“What? I didn’t even do anything.” I chuckled.

“You a lie. If you are innocent, then why is this toilet paper so strong? They don’t sell shit like this at the store. Quit playing and bring a roll of toilet paper, Royce,” Alex yelled on the other side of the door.

I tiptoed to the front door and grabbed my keys off the entryway table to run an errand. She would have to get it herself, shitty booty and all. I wanted to teach her ass a lesson. There was nothing I hated more than going to use the restroom, and there wasn’t any tissue. What was so hard about replacing the roll?

Instead of going back home, I pulled up on Chi since she still didn’t have her car. Of course, Baron didn’t like it, but I didn’t give a fuck. Hanging out with my cousin was more important than anything. We’d been close since the day I met her. We were opposite of each other. I think that was why we got along so great. Baron thought Chi was supposed to spend all her time with him. He barely wanted her to work. When we were younger, my uncle Chauncy always told us it was essential to make your own money. Now, I see why he instilled that in us.

Growing up, I used to say I wanted to be like his wife, Tracy. She was beautiful, had the perfect body, and what I thought was the ideal life. She didn’t have to work a job because my uncle was the provider. It wasn’t until I was older that I realized men used that as a control tactic. I learned that the hard way from my previous relationship. Being a kept bitch was all good until you had to deal with a plethora of bitches claiming to have fucked your man. Or women popping out with babies, which was a deal breaker. At least for me, it was.

My last boyfriend, Tommy, had taken me through hell and back, and it took a long time for me to heal from that toxic ass nigga. Getting hurt by someone you loved was the worst pain, and I didn’t wish it on anyone.

To make a long story short, some female he had been dealing with came to the shop talking about she was pregnant with his baby and that he was her man. Instead of trying to fight her, I told her she could have his low-life ass. I no longer wanted him. He’d crossed that line and had to stay there.

Then, Alex came along and mended a heart she didn’t break.
