Ginsburg was instrumental in striking down the VMI policy that denied females admission to the institute.

In other words, as she had successfully argued many times before, there was no justifiable reason for a woman to not be allowed the same rights as a man in this instance, and trying to establish such a reason was a clear violation of the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. Only this time, she was successfully challenging the long-held policy of a venerable institution that had been in existence since 1839.
