Immigration and Emigration

Beyond policies to improve the health and fertility rates of the population, immigration is another way in which other countries have changed what seemed to be their demographic destinies. Here, too, Russia has had a mixed record. (Figure 5.8 shows the pattern of migration into Russia since 1990, just prior to the Soviet collapse, through 2017, while figure 5.9 provides more detail on immigration and compares it to official emigration patterns through 2017.)
