Elizabeth stared absentmindedly at the contents of the refrigerator. Nothing looked absolutely irresistible, and she realized she wasn't really hungry anyway. She poured herself a glass of root beer and sat down at the kitchen table.

Lying next to her was the morning paper, and she picked it up, glad for a free moment to read. Her eye caught the headline "World-Renowned Director Comes to Sweet Valley," and she grinned, thinking about Jessica's optimistic scheming. Her twin was absolutely convinced she was destined for superstardom.

But her smile faded when she read the subhead, "Tragic Death of Son." Taking a slow swallow of root beer, she read the rest of the article.
