Chapter 24

She wasn’t sure how, but Archie had managed to survive an entire week of her teasing sexual torture. And Zenie had tried her level best to get him to crack. She had waited until she heard him walking down the hallway before doing some naked yoga stretches where he’d see her in her half-open bedroom doorway. She’d walked down the hallway to the bathroom wearing only a baby-doll top that barely brushed her naked hips, leaving her entire bottom exposed. She’d cooked a lovely dinner for him while wearing nothing but an apron.

She’d acted like nothing was out of the ordinary, too, all in the hopes of tempting him beyond reason.

She knew she was being completely unreasonable, too.

She was also pretty sure Archie kept banging his head repeatedly on the wall.

He had to crack. Sometime.

People like them needed to have sex. Often. It wasn’t natural to insist on paperwork. She barely felt it necessary to have a license. People had been marrying for thousands of years before countries and churches interfered. Were it up to her, she’d be happy with a tiny outdoor wedding with fresh flowers in her hair and a borrowed dress, something akin to Meaghan’s wedding.

She had a feeling Archie—should they ever truly wed—would want something extravagant. That’s what people with cohab agreements needed, right? Everything over the top?

Well, in Zenie’s case, it was more about being topless.

And now, Zenie was so amped up with sexual angst after a week of shameless naked parading that she was almost ready to tie Archie to a chair for a porn-a-thon while she teased him within an inch of sanity until he was so crazed with sexual need that she’d release him and they’d make wild, uncontrollable love for days.

A soft sigh emanated from her soul.

The radio station fuzzed out like it always did on this lonely stretch of farm road, so Zenie flipped to a station with a stronger signal. She’d had to leave a little earlier on Saturday mornings, since Meagan’s place was a bit farther from the Ren Faire than Archie’s, but it was great catching up with her mom on all the fun she’d been having throughout the week. Zenie counted herself beyond fortunate that she had family who enjoyed her hobby, otherwise, there was no way she’d have been able to leave her raptor for even a day. Their care and needs were too delicate to simply rely on a neighborhood pet sitter. She’d kissed her mom goodbye, weighed and then packed up a hangry Millie and got her loaded into the car for the long drive, thinking about how she was going to weasel her way into the office.

She got to the Faire ahead of Archie and dropped her bird off with the attendant at the raptor station. Since Millie had been kept a little hungry in preparation of today’s show, as well as to maintain her flying weight, Zenie treated her to a tidbit of meat, hoping the appetizer would whet her hunger.
