I was sitting outside of Archer’s property, watching and waiting. Everything about me changed when I was on a job. It was like I became a different person. No emotion, no feelings. It was as if I transformed into a machine—heartless and cold—but it was necessary in order for me to do what I needed to do. Emotions made you sloppy; they made you second guess your instinct and I couldn’t afford that. I already had Sasha to think about, but now there was Mo and Kenon and no matter what, I had to make it home to them. They were depending on me, so the second I set foot on that plane the killer had emerged. Ice flooded my veins, slowly moving through my body to my heart, wiping out anything that would make me careless, that could cause me to not make it home to the ones I loved.

My phone went off with a message from Mo and I didn’t bother reading it. I just shut my phone off and made a mental note to call her later. Kay was there, so if it was anything important he would handle it for now. I couldn’t risk letting my mind slip into thoughts of Mo and the baby.

It was five o’clock in the morning and Archer’s house was quiet. I tapped into the security footage with the laptop that Solo had given me and watched the feed running through the house. There were four exits—the front door, garage, patio, and kitchen. All four were usually guarded, so I would have to carefully take out the guards or find another way into the house. Archer’s master suite was on the second floor and based on the footage of his moves over the past few days, his men left for breakfast every morning between eight and nine. Archer had a masseuse come to his room to service him while his men took a break to leave for breakfast. If I could enter from the service entrance on the side of the house while his men were at breakfast, then I could go upstairs from the back entrance, put a hot one in Archer, and be out in less than twenty minutes. Now all I had to do was wait. This was the part I hated the most because I was impatient. I could feel the kill coming and I obsessed over it until my job was complete. The wait was what hurt me the most because I wanted the kill so bad I could taste it. I visualized it in my head and it was like I had to have it.

When seven-thirty finally rolled around, I lifted my hat off the passenger seat, pulled it down over my head and pulled on my black leather gloves. I was dressed in all black as usual and my baby was sitting in my lap with the silencer already affixed to it. It was finally time to work.
