“This was so much fun,” Sophie exclaims, eye-fucking Leo like there’s no tomorrow.

I squeeze Spencer’s hand in mine, feeling the waves of jealousy flow through her with every smile Leo gives the girl, completely oblivious of Spencer’s feelings.

“Well, the night’s not over yet. Who’s up for some dancing?” he asks, throwing a knowing wink in Zeke’s direction.

I expect Zeke to end this horrible excuse of a date by shooting Leo’s idea of going clubbing down cold, but to my surprise, he concedes with a nod. If he left it at that, it would be fine, but the idiot then wraps his arm around Roxy’s waist, whispering something in her ear that has her blushing.

If Spencer was filled with envy a minute ago, that sentiment has been quickly replaced with pure rage.

My friends are idiots.

“You know what, guys? Spencer and I are going for a walk instead. It’s a good night for it. Isn’t that right, babe?” I add the endearment on purpose to give Leo and Zeke a little taste of their own medicine.

I know that the game plan for tonight was to help Spencer out with her teammates, but both Leo and Zeke went a little overboard with the fake-ass charm. I’d expect that shit from Leo because he can’t help being an endless flirt, but Zeke’s uncharacteristic affection toward Roxy during dinner was just to mess with Spencer’s head, and that shit won’t fly with me. My two best friends need to get their heads out of their asses, and like usual, I’m always the one to set them straight.

“You know what? A walk does sound nice,” Spencer utters, then goes on her tippy toes to place a wet one on my cheek. If it weren’t to show the guys what they are missing, I could have enjoyed the kiss a little bit more, but I completely understand her motives behind such a kiss.

“Whatever. Let’s bounce,” Zeke growls, pulling an overeager Roxy with him. Leo, however, isn’t as dismissive.

“Are you sure, pet? We’ll have fun,” he says with genuine hope in his eyes that he’ll be able to convince Spencer to go dancing with them.

“I think you’ll have more fun without me.” Spencer sneers but then quickly backpedals, summoning the fakest smile I’ve ever seen on a girl. “You guys enjoy yourselves. I’ll call you tomorrow, Sophie, to see how it went.”

“Don’t call too early, though. Who knows where the night will take us,” Roxy interjects on her friend’s behalf, running her finger up and down Zeke’s torso.

Yeah, I’m not going to stand here and watch another second of this shitshow.

I wrap my arm around Spencer’s shoulders and wave the foursome goodbye before Spencer wrings Roxy’s neck. Once we turn the corner and are out of their sight, I let Spencer go, so she can explode like she needs to.

“Argh!” she yells through gritted teeth.

“Well, that was fucking awkward.” I laugh, relieved the awful night is finally over.
