Reno was awoken the next morning by the sound of loud voices emanating from the clearing outside the main homestead of Dragonclaw.

What is going on?

The other side of the bed rustled, and he looked to find Dani turning over to look at him, her face glowing and her dark hair messy from their long night of ecstasy.

Hell, he’d waited his whole life for last night, and being with her, pleasing her, pleasuring her, had been more perfect than he ever could have imagined.

“Hi,” he said.

She yawned, then leaned closer and cuddled against his chest. “Morning.”

Reno wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close for a while longer, never wanting to let her go and wishing they could just go back to sleep, but that didn’t seem to be an option as the voices outside the window were getting louder.

“I guess we should probably see what’s going on,” she muttered sleepily.

He leaned down and kissed her forehead, chuckling quietly. “As much as I despise the idea, probably.”

“It’s okay,” she said, looking up at him with a mischievous gleam in her eyes. “Always time for an afternoon nap.”

“You and your naps,” he said, leaning down to give her a quick kiss before they broke apart and got out of bed.

They got dressed quickly, ate a quick breakfast, and headed into the main area of Dragonclaw where all of the commotion was taking place.

From what he could tell, Harrison and Beck were there, but it seemed their mates were still inside. Both of the basilisks, Gunnar and Diesel, were also there, and they were all facing a newcomer who stood in front of them.

They all seemed to be having a heated discussion, and as Reno and Dani reached them, he caught the last few words of what Beck was saying.

“—not sure what to do.”

“What’s going on?” Reno asked, taking Dani’s hand in his and maneuvering them so they were standing next to Harrison.

Harrison just nodded stoically at the newcomer, and Reno stopped to take a closer look, then frowned.

The man was tall and buff, obviously a shifter, and he was wearing a worn pair of dark jeans and a white work shirt, but the interesting thing was his eyes.

Both of his irises were blood-red. Like Gunnar’s one eye. But the air around this basilisk was different. Instead of the almost primal feel of the other basilisks, this one had an odd calm to him like he was thinking things he wasn’t saying.

His face was handsome and striking despite his unsettling red eyes.

Overall, there was just a feeling of intelligence around him.

He also had short dark-blond hair and stubble over his hard jaw. He cocked his head as he appraised those around him.

“How long has he been here? What’s his name?” Reno asked, positioning Dani so she would be more behind him.

“Not long,” Harrison said, still eyeing the basilisk. “Showed up early this morning, though. As for his name, we—”

“Ajax,” the basilisk interrupted, his voice deep and monotone.

“Ajax,” Harrison repeated before turning to Gunnar and Diesel, who hadn’t said a word yet.
