RECEIVE YOUR HEALING

THE NATURE OF GOD

Before discovering the different routes to healing, we first need to be grounded in the nature of God as our healer and explore the scope of His healing. Healing flows from the nature of God. Healing is not foreign to Him; it is who He is. Healing is His character. It is the attribute or feature that makes up His personality.

The Exodus from Egypt is God’s greatest act of salvation in the Old Testament. During the Exodus, the people of Israel knew God to be the God who is all powerful, the God who is mighty in battle, the great warrior who fights for His people, the God who split the Red Sea and brought judgment upon the Egyptians. After their escape from Egypt, God knew that they would be wandering in the wilderness for forty years. He knew that there would be no hospitals or medical centers in the wilderness. As a result, God wanted to reveal to them His nature and extend His care and protection. He wanted to reveal to them who He was to them, and who He would be to them. Hence, He declared, “I am the Lord, who heals you” (Exodus 15:26).

As a result, three million people ended up traveling around the wilderness without ever getting sick. The Bible tells us that not one among them stumbled (Psalm 105:37); rather, the Lord kept them free from every disease (Deuteronomy 7:15). That’s because it is His nature; He is the God who heals. His character is constant and never changes.

The Book of James clearly tells us that every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights who doesn’t change like shifting shadows (James 1:17). God’s nature and His character are constant. He only gives good gifts to His children. We need to be firmly grounded in who God is; otherwise, how can we expect Him to do something that He is not? In revealing the Father to us, Jesus said, “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11). Those powerful verses reveal the character of God as the God who heals and, more importantly, that this nature doesn’t change with time; rather, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). He healed and will always continue to heal. Unlike us, His position hasn’t changed. Healing never ceased throughout church history. Just like evangelism—the more we evangelize, the more people get saved. Healing is the same—the more we pray for the sick, the more we will see them healed.

God’s position on healing has not changed. We need to change our position to be in line with God. That’s why Jesus said, “The time has come.…The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Mark 1:15). Mark is saying, “History has
