Lea

In the few weeks since Maverick and I poured our hearts out to each other over breakfast, he had treated me like nothing short of a princess. He cooked for me, called me every morning to make sure to let me know I was the first thing on his mind when he woke up, and he even brought flowers to my job every Monday so far so I would have fresh flowers on the counter for the week.

I had to admit Maverick was putting in work. I was glad that I opened myself up to see where things went with him. I knew I still had feelings for him, but hearing him admit he still cared so much for me made me want to let him into my heart.

It was his idea for us to abstain from having sex until I felt like I was over my past hurt. I knew I might not heal as fast as he had hoped, and it wasn’t completely his fault. A lot of my pain came from Julian’s abandonment.

I didn’t get into all that though. It wasn’t the time for all that. Instead of committing to putting off sex until I was healed, I told him that we would wait six weeks. It wasn’t like we hadn’t already had sex as recently as a month ago. Yet I understood what he was trying to do. It was sweet because his main thing was proving he didn’t only want me for sex as I thought in the past.

Maverick signed his mom up for my anti-aging skin care class, and she loved it. My anti-aging class was my fourth sold out in a row class, and I even opened five additional seats due to high demand. As I was cleaning up and putting the tables away, she walked over to me.

“Lea, baby, you are amazing.”

“Thank you, Mrs. Ross. I’m glad you could make it.”

“Of course. When Ricky told me that you were teaching classes about makeup and skin, I was so proud of you. He surprised me when he signed me up though.”

“He’s full of surprises.” I smiled.

“You know I wanted you for my Ricky before that ol’ uppity thang got to him. I didn’t tell him, but I’m glad he left her. He was never going to be good enough for her. You know she called herself a big-time nurse or something, but I don’t care nothing about that. He didn’t even seem like himself when he was married to that girl. She put him down like a dog right in front of me one day, and I wanted to shake my baby and tell him a pretty face is nothing when you have an ugly heart.”

“You’re right, Mrs. Ross.” I agreed.

Maverick had never spoken ill of his wife in our conversations. He only revealed he had cheated on her and she gave him permission to keep sleeping around as long as they stayed together for appearances. He felt like it was a waste
