He awoke slowly. Last night was so amazing. Mia was so amazing. They’d fucked all

night. She couldn’t get enough of him, and the feeling was mutual. He went to a warm, fuzzy

place as he thought of it.

Having a mate was excruciatingly sweet.

The water was running, she was obviously in the shower. For a minute he closed his eyes,

feeling his exhausted dick warm as he savored the memories.

Sometime later, he woke with a start. He’d crashed, hard. But the shower was still

running, so it couldn’t have been more than a few minutes.

He looked at the clock, and the image blurred. Twelve o’clock.

He rubbed his bleary eyes. “Mia?” he called out, still staring at the time.

Two o’clock.

What the hell? Startled, he jumped up, grabbing the clock from the bedside table. It

wasn’t twelve. It was two in the afternoon.

He moved to the bathroom, knocking softly on the door. No answer.

He pushed it open.

The water ran, but Mia was nowhere inside.

She was gone.

Chapter Six

It was almost close to closing time. Thank God, because she was exhausted. She’d been on

the run, careful not to go too far. No, she she’d hid out in the next town over, where she could

plan. She’d been in the bar all day, and then changed her clothes and came back when a new

shift of servers came on duty for the dance-type crowd. She’d been here for hours, waiting for

the perfect opportunity. Now she had it.

The table drinking in the corner would want one last round. Mia watched, sipping her

iced tea, as the server approached their table. “You want one more round, guys?”

“Hell, yeah.” The rowdy group of college guys grinned, and the one who’d been sneakily

watching her finally made eye contact.

Alcohol made even the shyest brave.

It was the perfect scenario. She’d offer to drive him home. He thought he’d get lucky, but

he’d pass out. She could crash a couple hours on his couch. Then she’d sneak out, drive to the

bus station a few towns over, and even leave him a note telling him where to find his car.

No traces to her, especially since she couldn’t use either her real name or the fake one. No,

unfortunately she’d have to use the credit card and identification she lifted earlier in the day

from the server who cashed out her tickets before heading home. By the time that woman

discovered unauthorized charges, she’d be long gone.

For now, however, his buddies cheered him on, nudging him with their shoulders. He

made his way over to her table.

“What can I get you?” Mia asked.

“Your number?”

She smiled. It wasn't an original pick-up line, by any means. But under the haze of

alcohol, he thought it was awesome.

It was what he finally worked himself up to. All night long.

“I don’t give it out,” she said gently. “I never mix business with pleasure. Sit down. How

about one last drink and we can get to know each other?”

“Are you sure?” he asked, all bravado and glossy, dark eyes.

“Yes,” she said gently. His buddies would leave, and she’d offer to take his keys to drive

him home.
