Storage of Food Grains and Fuel

The collection of fuel-wood and grinding of grains is done twice a year: after the sowing of crops and after the harvesting and gathering of crops in the autumn. That leaves the household members free to work uninterruptedly in the fields during the short fleeting summer. During the harsh winter, no outdoor work is possible. People remain indoor and spend time rejoicing in festivities or in the handicraft and indoor activities.

Meal times

The people in this region normally take food five times in a day during the ploughing operation and some important social and religious occasions. This is essential to have enough of proteins through the evenly spread meal times during the intensive work routine. Thus, they take chhin-nan (breakfast) and then tshe-ma (morning meal). That is followed by the za-ra (early lunch) and bar-shod (late lunch). The evening meal is called gong-sal (dinner). Usually people take meals only three times a day.
