As students formulate and discuss responses, Amy once again circulates to observe students and provide coaching when needed.

When student groups have reached consensus on the questions, Amy gives them their task: Issues of the Day Magazine has asked you to write a brief editorial (two to three paragraphs) that responds to Bacon’s argument by explaining your position on the role of private revenge in society. They have asked that your article address these questions: Is private revenge justified? If so, when? How should the law react to people who enact revenge plots? Remember what we learned about editorials: State your position, use examples, and be provocative.

Do You Hear What I Hear? happens three Mondays each month. On the fourth Monday of each month, students select their best product for the month and meet in editor-response teams, where they read their selected piece and make revision notes based on the group’s feedback. As usual, Amy listens in on these revision sessions to help groups think through the process of providing thoughtful and constructive feedback. This process of selection, feedback collection, and revision helps students produce their best work. But that is only half the story: The same process helps Amy as well. With only one product to mark, Amy is able to provide better feedback and devote more time to diagnosis and coaching.
