We then drove to Mammoth Hot Springs, which at that time was a very beautiful sight. Of course, those older than me had to visit Devil’s Kitchen, a dried-up spring that the park service closed after discovering that carbon dioxide sometimes filled it. It was a scary place for a child.

Driving through the gate in Gardiner, we headed home to Butte with many happy memories of a long weekend!

Many years have passed since those visits to Yellowstone National Park. My husband and I have made six trips together. As I write this, I am in my 90s now and remember every single trip. Those were exciting and sometimes scary experiences. Summer or winter, Yellowstone is the perfect place to be out in nature.
