Chapter Eighteen

Radoo stood over Livvy, his eyes glittering. She felt uneasy but not really scared because she knew he wouldn’t hurt her. She was just seeing a side to the Preor that she had always believed in but couldn’t prove.

He looked vicious, threatening and completely alien. His muscles rippled and bulged, responding to the movements of his hands as he clenched his fists. She could see lines of scales flashing across his body like ripples on a pond.

His eyes flashed with reptilian rage. His wings trembled as if they begged to take to the sky.

“They aren’t my people,” she said, softly. “The majority of the resistance would not support this. We might not trust the Preor, but we don’t want to blow them to pieces either.” She spoke firmly, determined to prove to him that the resistance was based on good principles.

Radoo shook his head. “I can’t even discuss this with you. I need to rest and then we can talk about what to do. Obviously, I can’t fly back to Tau Tower without you. You won’t let me take you with me and you won’t lead me to the resistance.” He scowled as he thought this over.

“That’s probably a good thing right now,” he muttered. Livvy shook her head and kept her expression blank. He turned away coldly and lay down on the saggy couch in the corner. He didn’t fit on it very well, but he just propped his feet and head on the edges and took deep, long breaths to relax himself.

Livvy watched him, a bit disappointed that he hadn’t lain down beside her. She wanted to touch him and snuggle against his warm body. She yawned and stretched out on the bed, thinking how long ago it had been when she woke up this morning.

The world had seemed a perfect place then. All of them had caught the excitement of the day and had been riding high on a wave of triumph. Today they would strike a blow the Preor couldn’t ignore!

She felt literally sick that she had been so happy about the attacks. It didn’t matter that she hadn’t known about the bombs. She had been there; she had actively helped, and she had wanted people to get hurt. She honestly thought a few humans might get banged up, but she had been hoping for worse for the Preor. Now she was disgusted with herself.

She stayed stretched out on the bed, crying softly. She didn’t sob, just let the tears slowly trickle from her eyes. She was sad and hurt for so many reasons, but more than anything she was thinking of all the innocent people back at the camp. People like poor old Betty, who fled the city from fear of the dragons. Bruce who had brought his three daughters far from the city so they wouldn’t become dragon mates. Children who saw the Preor as flying lizards, not fairytale dragons.

Those people were innocent in more ways than one. They were being led astray by Derek and Chance.
