Chapter 23

NYACK: NY

“Hello?” she whispered into the phone, carefully trying not to wake Dragon. Silence lingered on the phone.

“Porsha?” she spoke, again looking around to see if Dragon heard anything. He was still sound asleep and hadn’t moved from the position he was laying in. Removing the phone from her ear, she strolled across the plush brown carpet to place the phone back on its cradle.

“This heifer… how dare she call me this early in the morning, only to hang up the phone in my ear? It appears as if Chin didn’t teach her enough manners, so I will have to,” BabyGirl mumbled under her breath.

Pausing for a brief second, she stared at Dragon’s slender frame; the room was dark, but all sorts of lights were going on in her head. The most prevalent was to shoot him dead right where he was sleeping.

“Naw, that would be too easy,” she rationalized. “Maybe I should stab him in his sleep.” She continued to look at him and spoke as if someone else was in the room and they were weighing out the choices they had.

Flashing back to a song her father always sang, she smiled to herself as the words came clearly in her head. “Six millions ways to die…choose one.” Her smile widened knowing she would have fun choosing one out of the six million ways to kill him if everything she heard about him turned out to be true.

Sauntering across the carpet, she removed her clothing from the walk in closet and made her way to the kitchen. She needed to place another call, but she couldn’t inside the bedroom. Once downstairs, she walked past the island in the center of her kitchen. Shiny stainless cookware hung from the ceiling, which would show one their reflection if they looked in it. She didn’t stop to admire her pots, something she would have done on a regular day. Instead, she moved to the granite counter that held the Panasonic gray cordless phone. Her petite hands pressed the digits, in a few seconds, Dimples was on the opposite end.

The white clock above the microwave read 3:45 A.M. With Dimples line still ringing in her ear, she prayed the woman would pick up. Being caught by Dragon with her clothing on and on the phone at that hour of the morning was something she didn’t feel like explaining. One of the instructions from Porsha was to ensure Dimples came along.

“Whoever this is, this better be good, you calling my goddamn house at this time in the morning.” Attitude saturated in Dimples’ voice.

“Dimples,” she whispered. She looked toward the kitchen entrance to make sure Dragon wasn’t up. “Get up. We need to talk.”

“Ah…you funny, call me back in the morning,” responded Dimples in an aggravated tone.

BabyGirl figured Dimples was about to hang up on her.

“You better not hang up on me, now wake the fuck up and listen,” she shot back through clenched teeth.

“Now you done crossed the mothafucking line! You’re calling my home this late and cursing at me on top of it? This better be good, bitch, this better be good.
