Chapter 8

Pan knew immediately that something wasn’t right. He cracked his eyes open and saw the empty space where Igorian should have been. There was no other scent in the room besides his and the vampire’s.

Fully awake now, Pan turned and gazed around the room.

It was empty.

Igorian had slipped away like a thief in the night. The thought both hurt and angered Pan. Maybe he was barking up the wrong tree. There was a real possibility that Igorian would never be his. The fact that the vampire wasn’t here was a bold statement to that fact.

Still, even knowing that Igorian didn’t want Pan in the same way that Pan wanted the vampire, he had to make sure that Igorian was safe.

I’m a fucking idiot.

Yeah, he was. Pan was chasing a man who held no interest in him. When was he going to get that fact through his thick skull?

A growl rumbled through Pan as he got up and dressed. Never in his life had he worked so hard at trying to get close to someone. He was beginning to feel like he was wasting his time.

Pan made his way out of the room and then the sewer system. He caught Igorian’s scent just outside the rusty entrance and followed until he was out on the main street. There was only one place Igorian would have gone, and the thought of the vampire going to Capone made him gnash his teeth.

This whole situation did. Pan didn’t like being pursued and arrested for a crime he didn’t commit.

He paused on the street and felt his heart drop to his feet. His eyes zeroed in on the wanted posters of him and Igorian that seemed to be plastered every few buildings.

This was not good.

Pan glanced around, feeling exposed. He was in plain sight without even a pair of sunglasses to conceal is identity. Anyone with half a brain cell would make the connection between him and the man snarling on the poster.

He just hated the fact that Igorian had gotten caught up in all of this. But there was nothing he could do about it. He’d just have to make sure Igorian’s name was cleared.

How, he wasn’t sure. The only way Igorian’s face could be up on that wall was if someone had spotted the vampire helping Pan. And that put a bull’s-eye directly on Igorian with the Ministry aiming for him.

Things were getting uglier by the second.

Pan hurried down the streets, using dark alleyways and shortcuts to the Dockside Club. He needed to get Igorian and then go for the proof that Helpsing was working with Lou Garoux on a real estate scam that would hurt the citizens of Phanta City.

Lou Garoux was a wolf and worked as the Head of Union Affairs at the ministry. But everyone knew he hated Capone with a passion because he wanted to run the docks but couldn’t beat Capone in a fight for dominance. Instead, it looked like he was trying to do it without ever having to challenge the alpha wolf mobster.
