I closed the door to the study so that I couldn’t hear any of the conversation. I tried to read but couldn’t concentrate. I dug through my dad’s CD collection and found Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony - the Pastoral. Music to relax by. I started the CD, took off my shoes, and lay down. The low murmur of voices from the kitchen and the calming music had the desired effect, and I went to sleep.

I woke up to Pete’s gentle rubbing of my leg. “Hey. Time for bed.”

I sat up so that I was facing him and held out my arms. He scooted forward, and we held each other for a few minutes, Pete’s head on my shoulder, me rubbing his back. He finally pulled away and kissed my forehead. “I’m exhausted. Let’s go to bed.”

We went to our room, took our clothes off, and fell into bed. Pete wrapped himself around me. He said, “I love your dad.”

“Yeah. Me, too.”

We were both asleep in about two minutes.
