Kenya:
There are an estimated 7,000 prostitutes who work in the Kenyan city of Nairobi, according to a report by the City Council.
Each sex worker sees an average of 3 to 4 clients each night.[100]
According to the NGO End Child Prostitution in Kenya, in 2009 there were up to 50,000 children involved in the sex trade. Most of the customers of child prostitutes were Kenyan nationals, as well as tourists from Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States. In 2012, child advocates reported that men were paying around $25 (2,000 Kenyan Shillings) to have sex with girls as young as 12. [101]
Media reports from Africa also state that , men in Kenya are increasingly choosing to visit prostitutes from Uganda rather than Kenya due to several factors.
One of the main factors of preference for Uganda prostitutes is due to female genital mutilation (FGM) of Kenyan women. Due to the process of cutting of the labia, many women are unable to feel stimulation during intercourse. Thus, according to the male customers, they are “boring in bed.”
Another reason is the price. Prostitutes in Kenya charge between $3.20 to $11.25 (8,000 to 28,000 Uganda Shillings). In contrast, prostitutes from Uganda charge between $0.80 to $2.00 (2,000 to 5,000 Shillings).
One Uganda prostitute stated that when Somali truck drivers travel through the area, she is able to make up to $500 (500,000 Shillings) a night.
There are about 500 prostitutes working in the area of Malaba, Kenya that borders on Uganda. The women service the hundreds of truck drivers who use the customs point at the border. [102]
