Nick
I stretched on the couch, causing my chest to rise with Rachel's head still on me. A grin spread across my face as I looked down at her face.
"So, Rachel what'd you think of the movie?" I asked as the credits spread across the screen.
"I liked it, really I did. I'd ask you, but that would've meant that you would've had spent some time looking at the screen," Rachel answered, tilting her face slightly so that she could attempt to get eye contact from me.
"What the hell are you talking about?" I posed the question raising an eyebrow at her and still not moving as she curled against me.
"You spent more time looking at me than the screen," she accused, with a giggle.
"What are you talking about? I was too watching the movie," I said as she shifted herself a little so that she was on her stomach and had her head on my upper body.
I wasn't ready for her to leave me yet.
"I could feel your head turning to look at me."
"You're feeling things."
"Thanks," she muttered.
"I was too watching the movie."
Rachel just stared at me weirdly as she wrapped more of the blanket more around us. She stared forward and started to smile really big because of our conversation, I just knew it. I didn't have to ask her. I had been watching the movie, and maybe my eyes would turn in her direction, sometimes. Doesn't everyone pay attention to the person theyâre watching with? So I did peek down at her during the movie, but that's just normal. Who doesn't watch other people's reactions to a movie?
"Nick, is that your wedding ring on a chain around your neck?" Rachel questioned, as she turned a little in my arms.
It didn't seem like Rachel was taking in that the computer was still on. She held the ring on my chain between two of her finger tips. While glancing from the ring to my eyes then back at the ring, her face was still calm.
"Depends, is that yours on your finger?" I rest my chin on the top of her head.
With my one hand still enfolded around her, I took her hand in mine so that our palms were touching. I noticed the skin around her finger seemed a little red, making me worry that the ring may be hurting her. Was it too tight for her finger? Was she allergic to metal? I kept my worry to myself, not wanting to upset Rachel, a natural worrier.
"They make us wear them at school and threaten to give us detention if we don't wear them, remember. So I just got into the habit of wearing it and I don't even remember putting it on this morning," Rachel replied softly.
"You've seen my record with our house key, that's why the ring is always on my chain. I always wear the chain even when I go to sleep, just out of habit and laziness," I started to smile. "That's why I was shocked your hair didn't get caught in my chain when we fell asleep together in the hotel.
