Chapter 12

Lauchlan reluctantly unwound himself from Faye’s arms and her toned legs tangled with his. Warmth sizzled on his right breast. He didn’t look. He knew what it was–the mating mark.

And Ian was coming.

Faye had been so passionate, her touch so loving, so giving that he didn’t feel evil.

Ka-Boom Ka-Boom Ka-Ka-Boom

Blood whisked through him and tingles rolled over his skin. Sensations pulsed in his chest as his dragon power surfaced.

Damn, Ian. He pulled out of her, wishing he could have lain with her longer.

Her eyes widened. “Lauchlan.” Her husky voice slipped into fear.

“What?”

Don't say it. Don’t say it. Don’t say it.

“Yer eyes…they’re red.”

Shit, she said it.

He didn’t answer her and turned his head, not wanting to tell her the truth.

“Lauchlan, talk to me.”

He clamped his jaw tight and closed his eyes. His body shook as the anger grew stronger, his power fiercer. He wanted to hurt Ian so bad.

Stay calm. Not yet.

He didn’t want Faye to see him like this.

“Are ye having second thoughts about what we did?” The sadness in her voice tore at his stubbornness.

“No.” He shook his head. “I don’t want you to see me like this.”

She slipped her hand around his neck and gently pulled. “Like what? What are hiding from me?” He could hear the anger in her voice.

He refused to give into her firm grip. “Please, Faye. Turn your head.”

He gritted his teeth. “You don’t understand. I can’t control it.”

She dropped her hand from around his neck. “Control what?” Her sarcastic voice put him on edge. He was walking on thin ice.

He cleared his throat. “Ian’s coming. We’ve got to move.”

She clasped his arm. “Yer lying to me.”

“No, I’m not.” He sat up, brushing her fingers off. “He’s coming.”

Ka-Bam

“I understand Ian’s going to attack, but I want to know why ye donna trust me.”

He dragged his fingers through his hair. “Ian’s will be more fierce. More determined. I can’t have this argument.” He clenched his fists, wishing he could turn off the power, but his heart pushed against his ribs, the anger growing stronger, the need to hurt stronger. “I can’t…can’t control it.” His voice was louder and more of growl.

“Yer eyes turn red with yer powers, don’t they?” Her soft voice made him jerked his head around.

His mouth fell open. “How did you guess?”

She smiled. “Yer voice.” She twirled her fingers in her hair. “And ye wouldna look at me.”

“I didn’t want you to see me like this. I look like a damn demon. I didn’t want you to kick yourself for falling for a devil.” His voice cracked.

She cupped his cheeks and kissed him softly on the lips. “No regrets.”

He shook his head. “Never.”

She put her hand on his pecs, sending chills down his back. “Ye belong to me as much I belong to ye.”

He nodded. “Yes.”

“Then promise me something.”

“Never lie to me again.”

He frowned. “I didn’t––”

She blurted, “Promise me.” Her sharp voice made him think he was walking into a trap, but he didn’t feel he had a choice.

“I promise.”

She dropped her hand.
