I was so freaking tired that I just wanted all of it to end. Leaving my home had not been hard. My father felt guilty for slapping me. When I lied and said I had a work meeting, he didnât think twice about asking me where I was going. Guilt eats us all up in different ways.
After getting an Uber, I made my way to the club. It looked way different than it did at night. Since there was no line of people wanting to go inside, it looked plainâkind of creepy.
I was scared out of my mind and slightly confused, and every time I took a moment to catch my breath, something new was being thrown at me. But that was living, right? We couldnât sit around and whine about it because the outcome would be the same. We can either sit around, and nothing changes, or get up and fake it until we get the courage to do something about it.
âKitten,â Cairo greeted me.
Even with the extra layer of protection the shades offered me, I still felt his gaze trying to peer through the lenses, trying to see everything I was hiding. I told myself after that incident I wasnât going to be a pawn to any of these men. I knew my worth, and I wouldnât settle for anything less than what I thought I deserved.
I needed his help, and I needed space. I tried to set up my walls even though he had already breached them. I handed him the disk.
He looked at the disk and then at me.
âHere, take it. I have things to do.â
âYou have things to do?â He questioned me like I was stupid.
âYes, I have to run some errands, and then I have to get home.â It wasnât entirely a lie. I wanted to make a stop at the dulceria before going home. My candy stash was getting low. I had about two hours, or else my father would question me.
âOkay,â he said, taking a step forward to get the disk, and I felt somewhat disappointed. But as soon as he reached for it, his hand gripped my wrist, while his other hand went to my waist.
âPut me down!â I screeched as he threw me over his shoulder. My body was on fire. It was too much contact between us, exactly what I had been trying to avoid. His hand was draped over my ass where the hem of my skirt stopped.
He ignored me and kept walking, ignoring the looks his workers were giving me.
âCairo,â I hissed, knowing full well he heard me.
âHmmm?â he replied as he began to go up the stairs.
âI donât like how this feels,â I told him. Because bobbing almost upside down was not fun.
âWeâre almost there,â he said, and then spanked me.
My cheeks turned red.
People saw that.
He opened the door to his office, and as soon as we walked in, I could smell the faint smell of smoke already embedded in the walls.
Still, he didnât put me down.
