CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

DOLL

THANKSGIVING

For days, I had been running ’round like a chicken with my head cut off. We were visiting the Millionaires for dinner, and Scar agreed that we’d bring something. I really wish he’d talked with me first before telling them that I was gon’ make some shit. Me! Of all the people in the world. He really wanted me to go in that kitchen and burn this house down. At least, that’s what almost happened the last time I attempted to make dinner for Stoney. Since that dreadful incident, I had been staying the fuck out of the kitchen. I came to grips that cooking just wasn’t for me, and if he wanted to marry me, he was gon’ have to accept the fact that I wasn’t gon’ be sweating in the kitchen.

I tried to make a red velvet cake. I went by the recipe and all, but the shit still didn’t come out right. After two tries, I gave up on the shit. My next mission was to attempt a sweet potato pie. Every single one I placed in the oven burnt. Then my stupid ass took it a step further and attempted to make macaroni. It didn’t come out tasting right, so I took my black ass to Walmart and grabbed a frozen pan of macaroni, scooped it out the pan, poured it into one of my glass pans, added some cheese and seasonings, and put it in the oven. When I pulled it out, it looked like homemade, and I was taking it. Nobody had to know exactly what I did. I was taking that shit to the grave.

“You ready?” Scar asked me from the bedroom doorway.

“Yeah.” Getting up from the foot of the bed, I grabbed my Birkin and stepped in his direction.

His hands instantly went to my belly and rubbed it in a circular motion. “It’s almost time for you to get here, and I can’t wait.” As soon as he said that, Chance kicked. That baby did damn near backflips in my shit whenever he heard Scar’s voice.

“I’m damn sure not ready for the sleepless nights. I already be barely able to sleep now. His big ass be having my damn hips hurting.”

“Don’t be talking ’bout my boy like that.” I playfully rolled my eyes and left the room.

“Grab the macaroni off the counter,” I tossed over my shoulder when I made it to the bottom of the stairs. My fat ass was out of breath and wasn’t ’bout to do any unnecessary walking to get that pan.

Scar returned with the pan, and we left the house. When we made it to his parents’ house, Schizo and Stoney were already there. I noticed Jill’s car in the driveway as well. I almost asked him what the hell she was doing there ’til I remembered that she was now considered their sister, so she had every right to be.

He used his key to let us into the house. As we got closer to the dining room, I heard Janet’s voice.
