“Are you sure no one followed us? I swear I heard footsteps down the hall on the other side,” said Mia.

“I checked, double-checked, and triple-checked. The hallway cameras were facing the other way, too. We don’t want anyone knowing we were here. Got it?”

Mia gulped, nodding. I took the key out of my Burberry trench coat pocket, slipped it in the keyhole and turned it slightly. I felt the little click and my hand wrapped around the door handle. The subtle creak of the hinges scared me, but I opened it up to a stuffy apartment that looked like it hadn’t been touched in months. I fumbled for the light switch, and to my surprise, the place was perfectly furnished. It looked like someone took their time decorating the place, not like it had been staged for a showing. My heart practically skipped a beat when I began recognizing the backgrounds of all of Jade’s videos. I never really gave much thought to where she’d filmed them, but now I knew.

“So this is where she’s been taking the internet by storm, huh?”

“I guess so.”

We took a quick glance around before my cell phone started to ring in my pocket. I fished it out, glancing down at the screen to see that it was Philip calling. My heart nearly leaped right out of my chest before it connected.

“Philip? It’s late. Is everything okay?”

“I’ve been doing you a favor, Didi. I owe you one after that last showing fiasco. Look, I couldn’t find a name, but I did find out that the investor that owns the unit is coming down there tonight. He should be there any minute. You could try to go get a good look at him. Though, just don’t get yourself in trouble, okay?”

“Ah, okay. Thank you so much, Philip! Gotta go!”

I hung up the phone quickly, grabbing Mia by the arm and I hauled her out of there. I locked the door quickly, and she stared back at me confused.

“We need to get out of here. Now!” I yelled at her.

We heard the elevator ding! and we bolted straight for the stairwell. We managed to get down to the ninth floor before anyone saw us, and that’s when I filled Mia in on what was happening.

“We have to go back up and see who it is! He might know - ”

“Stop right there. Look, we’ll take what we know to the cops, but I’m not waltzing back up there with my job on the line. Neither are you because someone will figure out I’m involved. We’ll go to the cops tomorrow morning. Let them handle it from here.”

Mia nodded. We parted ways, and I was somehow still afraid that someone knew what we’d been up to.
