Without white, the quilt looks muddy and lacks sparkle.

Success comes from using a diversity of print character, a complete range of value, and variety in the basic color family (white/beige/brown/gray).

Solid-colored fabrics: Use a full range of light (for sparkle), medium, and dark fabrics. Quilting will show up well.

Without light fabrics, the quilt looks flat.

Light fabrics make this quilt sparkle.

Focus fabrics: Use one focus fabric and many coordinating color and print fabrics. Choose a focus fabric with an interesting color combination that includes variations of each color (e.g., several greens). Choose coordinating fabrics that represent all the colors in the print, whether you like them or not. You’ll be surprised how interesting it will be.
