Note

1. The experience we have is as of a material object with certain material properties, even though what we see is a congeries of light. We experience the light as representing an object, and the object may well have the very properties it is represented as having. Thus the experience is veridical. However, the direct de re object of our experience is the light, not the material object. Nothing in this implies that there is any actual error in ordinary visual perception: objects can be as they seem to be, even if they are not directly seen.
