4.This theory is in opposition to the neurobiological model of OCD which assigns serotonin system dysfunction as an etiological factor in the development of OCD.
5.Repeated upsetting thoughts of harming the infant are egodystonic and occur in both males and females, while egosyntonic intrusive thoughts occur in postpartum psychosis.
6.Treatment consists of cognitive behaviour therapy with ERP and cognitive restructuring and psychoeducation. Pharmacotherapy with SSRIs as well as SNRIs is also effective.
