Chapter 27

Tonight, Melanie had Kendall all to herself as they dined at the Ruins for a romantic dinner.

“You’ve been so good to me during my stay and I just can’t thank you enough, Kendall.”

“Really, I should thank you. As I repeatedly mentioned to you, you have brought so much joy into my family.”

He chuckled to himself. “Do you know what my little girl said to me today at breakfast?”

Melanie’s inquisitive look prompted him to go on.

“You know, Daddy, although I’m supposed to be a young lady, I’m still your little girl.”

“Did she really? I shouldn’t be surprised, Kendall. You are raising a very smart and sensitive little lady.”

“Thanks.”

Kendall picked at his food and then looked up.

“I wish you weren’t going back home. I know it’s selfish of me, but I really wish you could stay here forever.” His eyes held her gaze while stirring the conflicting emotions.

Melanie knew she had fallen in love with this man. Being under his gaze only made it even harder for her to make her decision.

She, too, wanted to be with him and give all her love to him, but it was too soon for her right now. There were a few issues that she should settle before she made a serious commitment.

She reached and took his hand.

“I feel the same way, Kendall, but I have obligations at home as you already know. So, I don’t have a solution at the moment.”

“Believe me, Queen, I do understand. I just want you to know your visit has been the most wonderful thing that has happened to me in a long time.”

He paused briefly.

“Just remember that you also have a home and family here in Ocho Rios.”

Melanie felt a lump form in her throat. It had been a long time for either of them to feel comfortable to talk freely about themselves and the people close to them. It felt right to open up to him, and he felt the same.

“That’s why I look forward to our having the best time together for the next two days before I leave for home.”

“I’m looking forward to it. Robyn-Olivia, by the way, has a surprise for you.”

“For me, really? What is it?” Her eyes lit up just like his daughter’s would when given a surprise gift.

“Um, it’s a surprise, remember? Or have you been taking lessons from Robbie?”

She answered him with a soft laugh.

“After these wonderful few weeks, I don’t know what it’ll be like not having you around.”

“I can’t believe how this vacation turned out, either. I thought this only happened in the movies. But there’s so much I have to hash out, and you’re not making it easy for me, Kendall.”

“Perhaps that’s your problem, hashing things out alone. I’m here for you, Melanie. And that’s not just a casual line; I’m giving you my all. I really mean it.”

She wanted to believe him. “Thank you, Kendall.”

After he paid for the dinner, they left for the Myers’ home to enjoy Aunt Beatrice’s coconut cream pie and see what Robyn-Olivia had in store for Melanie.
