Chapter 15.

TOMMY.

I put an ice pack on my swollen eye and took a sip of the bourbon and coke my brother had placed in front of me. Nothing like a drink to settle the stomach, and take the edge off the pain of a fight.

Especially a losing fight.

“You need anything else?” Jonah asked me.

I shook my head and relaxed into the couch. “No, thanks.”

Jonah collapsed onto the other side of the couch. “Where’s Elliot gone? Do you know?”

I shook my head. “Nope. And at the moment, I don’t give a shit.”

I would in the morning, though. Elliot and I had blown up about shit in the past. We always worked things out. It was one of the reasons we stayed friends. We put past grievances behind us.

“Do you think he’ll forgive us for taking Bella to bed without him?”

I glared at Jonah, his question surprising me. “What do you mean, will he forgive us? There’s nothing to forgive. We didn’t do anything wrong.”

“Didn’t we?” Jonah asked, giving me a steady stare.

I took a long drink of my bourbon then rolled my eyes at my baby brother. “Lister, junior. Stop getting all smart with me, okay? Elliot wouldn’t have thought twice about us if he’d gotten to Bella first. He’s just sore he wasn’t first.”

And that was all it was. The stupid idiot was jealous, and being possessive over something that shouldn’t have those sorts of rules. Loving our mate should be a competition on who could give her the most, the best. She wasn’t a pie to divide and hoard our individual pieces.

“We’ve got our whole fucking lives to be with Bella. Why did he have to go wolf out and freak her out?” I said.

Jonah held up both hands. “Don’t ask me.”

I sobered, then took another drink. “That was good thinking, by the way. Getting her to, you know, magic out.”

Jonah grinned at me. “Did you hear that bit?”

I nodded. “We’re a good team. I was too focused on the threat to think about getting Bella to safety. So, nice job.”

For a kid of barely twenty-three, Jonah had some guts about him.

Jonah shrugged. “As you said, we’re a good team. It’s probably why these witches need three of us. You know, to cover all the bases.”

“Yeah. I suppose.” I hadn’t thought of it like that. “What do you mean, exactly?”

I’d had a few bourbons now, and the pain in my head from the fight with Elliot was hammering away at what little thinking ability I had.

Jonah shrugged and ran his hand over a nearby pillow. “Well, you know, we can be different things for them. Like, with Ruby, she’s got an alpha, a beta, and a part warlock who doesn’t listen to anyone. With us, I’m the beta, you’re the alpha. She gets fun, lighthearted me, and protective you.”

I frowned. “And Elliot?”

Jonah pressed his lips into a thin line. “Not sure where he fits.”

I sighed. “Yeah, me neither.”

Elliot had always been like a super-alpha to me, and to most of the pack.
