Before this dude could get out of the parking lot, Sheldon cornered him. He readied up his knuckles, in case it was necessary.

Incensed, his legs tight as rubber bands about to snap, Sheldon only stopped once they stood two feet apart. “Have you told her yet that you’re a fucking cop? And she’s under investigation?”

“No, I have not. I’m hoping I won’t have to,” Troy replied. “And you can’t tell her either, since you shouldn’t know yourself. Because I’ll get you with obstructing a peace officer. So just back off until I’m finished with my work.”

Sheldon knew he couldn’t make any threats, because both of them were likely recording. And he couldn’t lay a hand on the little runt.

Sheldon sniffed. “If anything happens to her, and I mean anything, no badge, no authorities, no nothing will keep me away from you.”

“You talk a lot of shit with your security boys standing right beside you. I wonder how you’d make out in a real squab with just your bare hands,” Troy said, goading Sheldon. And Sheldon knew it.

Still, he stepped closer until they were nose to nose. “Security’s not here to protect me. They’re here to protect you. But I can dismiss them. And we can find out. Like I just said, not one hair on Chriselle’s head is to be disturbed. For any reason. And don’t take your ass back to her guest house tonight.”

Troy’s grin was taunting. “That’s not your call to make. It’s Mrs. Mason’s call. Because she is still Mrs. Mason.” Troy sucked his teeth. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go prepare for my meeting on Monday morning. With Mrs. Mason.”

His fingers digging into his palms, Sheldon watched him walk off. Though this guy carried a badge, and acted under the color of law, Sheldon was one hundred percent certain that he was dirty and up to no good.
