Evander

I stayed in my wolf form, trotting down the river’s edge, and pausing at every suitable bank to hunt for clues. If she washed ashore at some point, I had to find her before Queen Lyvia’s wolves did. Only, I couldn't detect her scent. I couldn't find tracks, any tracks - human or otherwise, and it bothered me to no end.

The bank opposite me had marks upon the soft sandy soil. I grumbled. The Zilar River flowed steadily downstream with many different offshoots and tributaries. Shaking my body free of annoyance, I leapt into the river, swimming steadily against the current to the other side. Getting closer to the bank, I spied the soft outline of slippered feet with a big toe indented in the sandy ground. Getting fully out of the water, I shook most of the water free of my fur.

I growled under my breath. Being wet in wolf form was rarely fun. It happened and I dealt with it, but I rarely enjoyed it. Being wet at night though? It was torture. And the sun was going to sink soon. Finding Zuri along the many branches of the Xylia forest that went in tandem with the Zilar River wasn't going to be a picnic either. I looked around and sniffed the ground, thankfully catching her scent. At least I was on the right path now. That would make finding her and exacting my justice immensely easier.

Approaching the footprints in the dirt, another set lay firm in the sandy shore bank. A booted set, slightly larger than Zuri’s petite, narrow feet. Lowering my head to the slippered track, I inhaled deeply.

Zuri, I confirmed. She was here, but where did she go? Going to the other track, I lowered my head and sniffed. Not Zuri, but female from what I can gather.

I scanned the area behind her, seeing no additional tracks heading into the wooded forest leading into the Xylia Forest and the Espowyes Mountains beyond, I spun around, facing the river and the tracks heading back to the water. Surveying the ground, Zuri’s slippered feet, did some sort of maneuvering then dashed back to the water. I perked a brow, wondering if a fight had happened given the distance of strides. The heel of her slippered foot was the only indication left of her possibly getting back into the water.

I rolled my eyes and huffed. At least this is somewhat better than trying to hunt her through a gogmagog infested forest. She is smart… ish… My lips pulled in a reluctant wolf grin. She is relatively keen, I guess.

Following the river further downstream, I kept my eyes peeled for Queen Lyvia’s werewolf henchmen and signs of Zuri.

I came to a place a few meters before the first big split in the river. Boulders protruded from the water, creating a churning current below the water’s surface. I caught a scent on the wind of Zuri’s hair. The boulders near one of the big splits in the river, my eyes caught sight of glittering beads in the sunset.
