Chapter 14

Dismissed? I think not.

William~

What. The. Ever. Lovin’. Fuck?

Was she for real?

The knowledge that her parents were in attendance was the only reason I wasn’t dragging her off the dance floor by her goddamn fiery locks. Should they end up my in-laws one day, I didn’t want to fuck up their first impression of me. Still, the woman was testing me.

Testing. Me.

“What the fuck are you talking about?” I hissed, careful not to speak loud enough to entertain the other couples dancing around us. The gathering was extremely small, considering Damien’s station in life, so a scene with Vicky would not go unnoticed.

“You must not pay much attention to G&C’s website, do you?” she replied, sounding bored and condescending all at once.

“Why the hell would I?” I almost barked. “That site is for public informational purposes, Stems. I already know what’s going on with my own goddamn company.”

She turned her head and leaned in, so that we were almost cheek-to-cheek, and therefore couldn’t look at each other. “Well, as I web designer, among other things, it’s professional curiosity that had me looking through even the boring links of your guys’ website. The community impact and social links were especially interesting, though.”

Motherfucker.

I was going to strangle her, and my soon-to-be-new-in-laws were just going to have to deal with it. However, before I could murder her on the dance floor, the song faded away and the DJ cut the music because Damien was finally willing to let Fiona go and take their seats at the head table.

I placed a hand on Vicky’s lower back and guided her back to our seats, and that was another bone of contention at this point. I was seated next to Damien with Fiona on his right side and Vicky on the other side of Fiona. I was going to have to fucking wait until the toasts, dinner, etc. were done before I’d be able to speak to her again.

I sat down and slapped a smile on my face as Damien made a groom’s speech about his bride. It was completely unnecessary as we’d all already seen exactly how he felt about her when she had walked through the decorated curtains.

Everyone clapped and carried on once he was finished and I joined in-on the clapping, not the carrying on. It wasn’t until the food was being served and Damien leaned over that I realized I needed to work on my acting skills.

“Anyone looking at you would think you weren’t happy for us, asshole,” he said low enough for my ears only. “That scowl on your face is something else.”

I jerked my head to look at him. “What are you talking about?” I challenged. “I’ve got my happy face on.”

“Happy for a psychopath, maybe,” he retorted. “Dude, you looked like you’re one wicked villain laugh away from torching the place.”

I narrowed my eyes. “No, I don’t,” I argued.

Damien laughed. “Just a friendly reminder, Will, her parents are here,” he said unnecessarily. “Her dad’s the quiet type, but I’m sure he’ll have no problem murdering you where you stand if you fuck with his only daughter.
