Agustin was finally able to make it to the place he wanted to take Sharon for dinner, but they were a little worse for wear after helping deliver a baby in the tight confines of the car, so he ordered takeout and then drove down to a secluded spot that overlooked the channel.

It was not what he’d envisioned, but he was glad they’d both been there to help that family.

When that little baby was born and wasn’t breathing, he’d had a flashback to the moment he lost Luisa.

The same terror that gripped him when Sharon collapsed twice.

Thankfully, the baby had pulled through, and Sharon had been a huge help in making that happen. She’d been as steady as a rock through it all.

They had been true partners in that moment.

That little American family seemed like a tight-knit group. They were so full of love. He had that kind of love from his mother, but not really from his father.

Although there were blurry memories from his past that were starting to creep back out from where he’d tightly locked them away.

There’d been some happy times.

He wanted that.

He wanted that loving family, that tight-knit group.

It’s why he got married all those years ago.

Love and the hope of happiness.

He was a bit more jaded now.

He glanced over at Sharon, whose eyes were twinkling as she ate her dinner out of a cardboard box in his car, and his heart swelled.

There were a lot of emotions running through him at the ultrasound today. When he saw that little fetus on the screen, he was filled with emotions that he hadn’t experienced in a long time, but the sense of dread was still there.

He couldn’t help it.

All he could think about was losing Luisa. All he could think about was how much she had been looking forward to her ultrasound and seeing their child and he couldn’t seem to let go of Luisa’s accident. How work had taken priority that night and she’d driven in bad weather alone.

He’d paid the price by losing them. Now he was here in Ushuaia and had this second chance. Agustin didn’t feel that he deserved it. He was afraid to feel happy or excited, even though he was.

And when he saw Sharon help that mother, as they delivered those twins, Agustin was just caught up in the love and the happiness and the pride he felt for having Sharon carry his second chance at his dreams.

Only, Sharon wasn’t his.

“You’re really quiet,” Sharon said. “Are you all right?”

“I think I’m still in shock from that set of twins,” he said, which he was, but that wasn’t what was on his mind tonight. “I wanted you to have a nice dinner, a sit-down dinner, and yet all I can seem to manage is to get you takeaway dinners.”

Sharon laughed softly in the dim light. “I really do like takeaway dinners. And you have managed to take me out before, you know.”

“Oh?”

“The café in Barcelona. I believe we had some lovely sangria and tapas that night.
