The impact of temperature on gas turbine (and thus combined power plant) performance varies with design, but generally follows the same trend. These (and every other heat engine) perform better at low temperatures than high. As these corrections are the inverse, this means that α1 is greater than 1 at low temperatures and less than 1 at high temperatures, as illustrated below:
