None of Waiheke’s wineries is more highly regarded than Stonyridge, whose organic, hand-tended vines produce Larose, one of the world’s top Bordeaux-style reds. Vintages are often sold out (at over $250 a go) before they’re even bottled, so there are limited cellar-door sales. Come to taste ($7 for 3 of their less pricey wines, $30 for their 3 premiums including Larose), for the tour and tasting (Sat & Sun 11.30am; $10), to sample olive oil from some of NZ’s oldest olive trees (though only from the 1980s), or for a casual alfresco lunch overlooking the vines. Expect tasting platters on the deck, or the likes of scallops with pea purée ($18) or herb-crusted rack of lamb ($39) in the restaurant. Glasses of Larose are $46. Daily 11.30am–5pm.
