Lorcan and Ciannait returned to the hall as quickly as possible, since it was beginning to get dark and the winds were blowing harder. Ciannait was chilled and ran to the hearth upon entering the hall. Angus and Una sat by the fire. It was the first time in days he’d been out of his apartments.

“Father, you look much healed. Whatever Una has been doing is helping you.” Lorcan walked over to his father and placed a hand on Angus’ back. He noticed Angus was wearing warm clothing as if to go out into the cold, but he figured he was chilled and trying to keep it at bay.

“Aye, and I feel like a new man. Una and Ciannait are wonderful healers. They have cured me in a days time.” Angus looked at Una, who was watching the fire intently.

Ciannait kept her peace. She wasn’t sure she knew what was going on here, but she knew something was. Her amulet told her so. She wanted to find out what before anyone was in danger. She sat next to Una on the bench and looked around the hall. Mayhap she wouldn’t have to miss this place at all. She might be staying, at least a bit longer. Una sat on the bench, stiff and quiet. Ciannait leaned over to talk to her cousin, but the moment was not going to be. She would wait.

“The evening meal should be ready soon. The men are arriving in the hall as we speak. I should find out how much longer we have to wait.” Ciannait rose to go to the kitchen. Una followed her.

“Una, what is wrong? Why are you sitting there so stiff? Is there something you aren’t telling me?” Ciannait didn’t receive the answer she wanted.

“I’ve given my word. I can say nothing. I’ll keep my promise until I see it brings harm or can’t be held any longer.”

Una would say no more on the matter. She kept her lips pressed together tightly. She wasn’t talking.
