Chapter 22

Ellie

The rough rope bites into my wrists as I test the strength of the knots, determined to find a way out. Marlon watches me with sinister amusement, his icy blue eyes glinting with malice. I was sort of right with my theory. The ropes are fucking tight, but not as tight as they were. Moving my wrists back and forth is agonising, but I think it’s loosening the tension.

“Go ahead and struggle, Ellie,” he taunts. “It won’t do you any good.”

“Leave me alone,” I spit, glaring at him. I’ll rip my wrists to the bone if I have to, to get free of this rope and away from him. His sickly sweet scent is overpowering, and it makes me nauseous.

“Fine,” he says with a smirk, stepping closer. “But I think it’s time you learned your place.” He leans over me, pushing the loose oversized shirt I’m wearing over a vest top further over my shoulder. “He bit you to own you, Ellie,” he tuts. “How sad for you that he didn’t even want to mate with you.”

Jerking my shoulder back, he grips it tightly and bends over, his teeth bared. Before I can react, he sinks his teeth into my flesh, over Silas’s bite, marking me as his property.

“Ow!” I cry out, tears streaming down my face from the pain of the bite over the newly healed one. “You’re hurting me!”

“Shut up!” he snaps, pulling away. Blood drips from his mouth as he admires his handiwork. “Now everyone will know you belong to me.”

“Never,” I insist through gritted teeth. “I will never belong to you.”

Please don’t check me for more bites. It’s too painful. It’s too much pain.

“Is that so?” His voice is soft, almost gentle, but the threat is clear. “Then maybe it’s time I make this bond permanent.”

“Stay away from me,” I warn, rearing back so far the chair tilts dangerously on its back legs. With each passing moment, the fear grows stronger – what if he truly intends to force a mating bite on me?

Marlon inhales deeply, a look of awe crossing his face. “That scent. So ripe for such a spirited little omega,” Marlon chuckles, running his fingers over the fresh mark on my shoulder. “But you’ll learn soon enough who’s in control here.”

He leaves me alone in the dimly lit room, locking the door behind him, relief flooding me that he didn’t bite my neck with a mating bite. Desperation fills me as I scan my surroundings for any possible escape route – barred windows and reinforced doors. I can hear the footsteps of guards patrolling the area, a constant reminder of my captivity.

I’m trapped, and it seems like there’s no way out. The thought sends a shudder down my spine, but I refuse to give in to despair. I won’t allow Marlon to win – not now, not ever.

As time ticks by, I begin to piece together a plan. I may be an omega, but I can get out of this, no problem.

Fuck. I’m as deluded as Marlon.
