“Cab, Sah?” the driver asked politely, the friendly smile suddenly dropped away and a look of terror came over him as John staggered forward. The pain had drained all colour from his face, that, plus the stumbling gait and pain-racked crimson-ringed eyes, made him look like an extra from The Night of the Living Dead.

The driver took John by the arm and tried to help him negotiate the pathway, as he led him toward the aged white Mercedes. John stumbled on the curb, he gripped his side, clenched his teeth and waited for the pain to ease, and then used his arms to slowly lower himself into the spongy black leather seat.
