I donât even think he could see me in between them. His partner and I watched Latham shift into what weâd recognized as his attack stance. He needed to be stopped before he ever started, otherwise there would be no intervening.
âLay,â I said, putting both my hands up on his stomach. He still moved forward, until Nick was against my back and only my hands were keeping the front of my body separated from Lathamâs. Kam had been right behind me and grabbed one of Latheâs arms.
âLatham!â I said a little more forcefully. If he would just look at me, heâd get it under control again. His eyes snapped down to me and I tried to step back further into Nick but he held his ground, too.
âTonight isnât about the two of you, Lay,â I said quietly.
âSheâs right, partner,â Kam tried. âMackâs parents have been through enough lately. Donât make them see this, too.â I couldnât help the tiny gasp that escaped me when Latham lowered his head all the way down to mine. I truly wasnât afraid that heâd hurt me but he was the definition of terrifying when he acted like this.
âGet him out of here, Elle,â he growled at me. âI wonât give him another chance to walk away on his own.â I nodded at him quickly. I tried putting pressure against him with my hands but he didnât move at all. Instead, he pushed both my hands down and moved his head to the side of mine to kiss my cheek quickly before he stood upright and took a step back, finally allowing me enough space to breathe. I reached a hand behind me without taking my eyes off Lathe and felt around Nickâs body until I came across his hand. I latched onto it like it was part of my own body and pulled him behind me toward the door.
Nick was pulling on my hand to slow me down before we ever made it back to the car but I was desperate to get there before Lathe wouldâve had the chance to change his mind.
âEllie,â Nick said with a laugh, planting his feet so I couldnât force him to move any further.
âWe have to leave, Nick,â I said quickly, trying to get my hand out of his to keep moving.
âSweetheart,â he said, tightening his hold on my hand and dragging me back into him. âItâs fine. Not a damn thing is going to happen here, Ellie.â
âIf he makes it out here before weâre goneâ.â
I didnât get to finish my thought before Nick was kissing me. Heâd pushed me back against the car and his hands were like fire across my body. The thoughts of escaping Latham were immediately overcome with a ridiculous, adrenaline-fueled desire for this man. His lips worked down from my mouth, across my neck, and to my cleavage.
âNick,â I managed to whisper. âTake me home.â
âAre we going to make it that far?â He asked with a laugh, dragging his hand up between my breasts.
