Chapter 11

Tears fell on to the newspaper. Teddy was devastated. Seeing those three caskets at the funeral parlor that day he knew that was a day he would never forget. The imagery was so strong. His mind couldn’t comprehend what had gone wrong.

He had been avoiding Chase for the last month. He hadn’t spoken to her or seen her face to face. He didn’t want to see anyone. He had to hand it to Chase though. She was persistent. She tried to call him every day. She sent text messages, emails, IM’s, DM’d him… everything. He just didn’t have the energy to fake around and put on a good front for her.

It’s almost as if he wanted his life to end. He wasn’t sure how he was going to go on without his sons. Not that he wouldn’t miss Nikki too, but they had agreed to go their separate ways. Still, his legacy had died the same day she did. Now he had no one that would carry on his name and he didn’t know if having another baby was anything that he would want to do again anytime soon. And for that, there was a hole in his heart.

“I gotta stop feeling sorry for myself,” Teddy mumbled. I need to work and focus on something other than me. But even as he thought the words, he knew that today was one of the days he would not make it into the office. Today he was going to wallow in his own self-pity and they would have to find him there.

The morning of December 15 began just like any other morning. Theodore was preparing his coffee in his Keurig and reading the newspaper. After having to bury his entire family a few weeks prior, he no longer understood the meaning of life. He was having a hard time coping and therefore was using his work as an aphrodisiac with daily bouts of whiskey in his coffee to help him numb the pain.

Seeing Matthew’s number flash across his cell phone screen Teddy allowed it to enter into voicemail. He knew that Matt was worried about him but he couldn’t force himself to speak to anyone. Not just yet. He’d been ignoring him, Chase, and Hunter. He knew that the police were working on the case but so far didn’t have any leads and he was beginning to lose hope in their capabilities. There had to be some sort of clue. Something that could point them to the right direction of who the killer might be.

Sitting in his refuge at the Four Seasons Hotel, Theodore was finding it impossible to bang out his interview with Anderson Cooper on his keyboard. Anderson Cooper was well respected in the journalist circle and had given Teddy the opportunity to interview him personally; something that he rarely allowed. Theodore wanted to make sure he did the story justice, because it was truly an honor. This meant the pressure was on because how he approached the story could make or break his career and he had the audacity to be drawing a blank.
