“Like what? You think he’s hiding something else? How would you know that?” Jess was getting majorly agitated. “Has he told you some big secret?”

“Oh, no.” While Paige remained calm, my pulse raced. Paige said, “I’ve never even talked to Ben about secrets. I was just saying that maybe you don’t know him as well as you think you do.”

“Really? Or maybe you’re just trying to make me think he’s got all these other secrets that he isn’t telling me, so that I’ll let him go, and you can have him all to yourself.”

“I don’t want him. I have a boyfriend who, by the way, is great friends with Ben,” Paige said.

Gordon’s hands wildly spiraled large quantities of ribbons. “We guys don’t poach our friends’ girlfriends,” he said like a relationship expert. “It’s not cool.” He spat a little on the c in “cool.”
