Chapter Six

"See anything you like?'

Seth Freeman shook his head with amusement at his friend. He didn't bother to answer the question. He'd been too busy attending to his customers' needs to make any real notice of their appearance.

Perry Noone looked across the bar with a slightly disapproving gaze. "Of course, you don't. I forgot you're too pure a soul to be tempted."

"Oh, hush up! Not all of us are driven by the carnal."

"Clearly."

"I'm sorry but I find it a waste of time spending my entire day in bed with some suicidal human."

Perry snorted. "There's no such thing as wasting time with creatures like us. Time is something that humans have to worry about. You've been a vampire for almost a century, my friend. It's about time you embrace it. I'm sure there's some succulent flesh here that you'd love to sink your fangs or dick into."

Seth grabbed a rag and wiped down the countertop. He always did this when he couldn't think of anything else that needed to be done. On the stage, the band played Ragtime as patrons gambled and mingled. Liquor flowed freely. The Green Pelican Saloon turned out exactly how his sire had imagined it; lively and full of temptation. Other than the band members, he was the only black face in the joint. The employees showed nothing but respect for Seth as they knew that he could easily kill them, not that he would. For the most part, he had control over his bloodlust. He was left in charge of the place while his sire was away. If any word got back to the older vampire that his progeny had been disrespected, it was more than guaranteed that there would be hell to pay. It was almost a month since Alec departed for Baton Rouge and he hadn't heard a word from him. Seth wasn't worried. It was typical of his sire to go completely AWOL on a business trip as more than likely the vampire was fucking every willing young man that looked his way.

"How about her?" Perry grinned as he gestured at a scandalously dressed woman across the room. He licked his lips and ran a hand through his tidy white hair. "Or her? Or him? That's right. I forgot. You're not into men. Oh well! More for me!"

Seth couldn't help but shake his head again. His friend had only two passions, fucking and feeding and he made sure that he got more than his fill of them. It was amazing how both men and women fell under Perry's spell. He never glamoured the people he went to bed with. It took away the fun for him. No, he only wanted to devour a willing participant. His pale complexion was a shock for the eyes at first but what he lacked in pigmentation he made up for in charm. He never allowed his albinism to hold him back. He was of average height and possessed a slightly muscled body, but it was his demeanor that drew people to him.
