Chapter 13
Trina gives me one more chance to go with her to drop Allison off to her grandparents. I declined again for the tenth time, laying with Allison this morning sharing kisses and just being together was wonderful. Seeing her getting into the car I feel an ache in my chest, I quickly wave to her and go back into the house. I am wandering aimlessly around and even the kids are failing to distract me. I excuse myself and go to my room. I sit on the bed, pick up my phone and Skype Sheri. I wait impatiently for the call to connect. I see Sheri and Judy waving frantically at me and smiling and it’s infectious, I return the smile.
“It’s so good to see you both, how are you?”
Sheri and Judy answer together and are still waving at me making me laugh.
“I’m so glad I showed you how to work Skype before I left. How was Christmas? Did you have a nice time?”
Judy and Sheri share a glance before they respond. Judy nods her head and Sheri leans closer to the screen.
“What are you doing? You know you can’t come through the screen.”
“Listen, lady, we didn’t come up in the last shower and we know you. Who is she and what put that sour look on your puss?”
My jaw drops, and I try to hide my feelings.
“Ha! There is someone. Only a woman can make you go through rapid-fire facial expressions. Sheri, could it be that our little girl has found a woman?”
Sheri grins at her wife before looking back at me. “I do believe you’re right honey. Now I wonder how long it’s going to take for her ladyship over there to tell us what’s going on.”
“You know I’m right here?”
“Yes dear, we can see you, you taught us well.”
“I see you got sarcasm for Christmas Judy.”
I hear the two of them laughing and I sit back and enjoy the moment of watching the back and forth of my two dearest friends. They realise I haven’t spoken yet, “Come on tell us how everything has been going and who the lady in your life is and why you look like you lost ten dollars and found a cent.”
I recount the events of the first week of my vacation and every so often I get responses that are very unladylike and other times with screams of joy. When I reach the topic of Allison I stop talking and look at them sadly.
“I did meet someone, she is beautiful, kind, caring and wonderful. She is Trina’s best friend.”
“Wow, you caught yourself a younger woman, our girl has skills. So why do you look so out of sorts?”
I sigh and shrug, “I don’t know, she’s eleven years younger than me, I’m here for another two weeks and then I leave. I don’t want to hurt her, and I don’t know if this is right for me to get involved with her when I am leaving again so soon.”
“Hannah, you’re allowed to have fun and age is just a number.
