Chapter 18

Isolabella

The table is a large, solid, dark marble that’s smooth and rounded off at the edges. I take a seat at the opposite end of Tobias with Ravina and Jude on either side of me. Tobias stands at the back of his chair while we take our seats.

“I have invited a few guests to join us this evening. They want to welcome you to Munder.”

His smile widens until the whites of his teeth become visible. Turning to his right, his hand twirls to the side using his magic to open a tall, back door with brass handles and white trimming. Two couples walk into the dining hall dressed to perfection.

“Welcome! Come, have a seat.” Tobias’s voice booms around the room.

The first couple walks over to the left side of the table. The woman is stunning with a tall, curvy frame and short, black hair. Her features are sharp but it’s her eyes that have my attention. They are a deep crimson color with gold-like spots around the edge. The man with her pulls out her seat, shooting a smile my way when he catches me watching him. He has a slender build with creamy white skin that almost looks ashen.

While they take their seats the other couple seems to be having a quiet conversation with Tobias off to the side. Both the woman and man are short with a stocky frame and long, white hair. They would almost look like twins if they weren’t holding hands so intimately.

“Did you know there would be others?” Ravina whispers over to Jude.

I try to watch his face for any signs of a lie as he shakes his head.

My stomach sinks because if Tobias didn’t tell Jude we would be having dinner with others, then what could his agenda be? Feeling for my power, I make sure that familiar buzz settles just on the surface.

Having E sit behind me on the back of my chair, I watch as Tobias takes his seat at the head of the table. My powers hum as our eyes lock, causing my hands to fist in reaction. If this was a set-up my instincts would send off warnings, but I’m not getting anything right now.

Servers come out of the side door wheeling trays of all sizes to the table. They unload what seems to be ten different brass trays holding various foods and dishes.

“It’s time to feast my friends!” The loud timber of Tobias’s sends chills down my arms.

We each pull the lid off the trays closest to us revealing spreads of meats, soups, breads, and an assortment of steamed vegetables. My mouth waters taking in the steaming foods in front of me. We all take turns plating our food with the only sounds heard is the clink clink clink of silverware on glass.

Two servers come back out with bottles of red wine and tall, gold glasses that have silver designs looped around the bottom all the way down the handle. The server closest to me pours us a glass and sets the wine in the middle of Jude and Ravina.
