The mood in the bar is understandably sober, and it's not even the fault of the basketball team this time. I head to the bar and flag down the guy behind it to order myself a beer, noticing Grace sitting on her own in the corner and looking a lot worse for wear.

"A rum and coke too, please," I say without even thinking about it.

Or the fact that I know what she drinks.

The bartender returns in a couple of minutes with my drinks. I pay and grab them to head over to the other pixie in the corner.

She looks up, surprise flitting over her face as she sees me, but it's replaced by a small smile. That's good, it seems she's not too mad about seeing me.

"I brought you a drink," I say, putting it down in front of her.

"What did you do to it?" she asks.

I chuckle. "Nothing. The truce is still in place until practice."

"Unless Zara boots me off the team before that," she mutters.

"Can I sit?"

She nods.

I slide in next to her, resisting the urge to put my arm around her. I don't even fully know where that's come from, only that I want to.

"Zara's not going to throw you off the team," I assure her.

"You don't know that, she was pretty mad." She picks up the rum and coke and takes a sip, making me pleased that she's decided I'm trustworthy enough for that.

"She was, but we're through to the final..."

"In third place." The disappointment comes through her voice as strongly as I'm feeling myself.

"Which is better than fourth," I remind her, though it's fairly empty. We all know third is bad. "And we don't know for sure that we'd have done better if the wing-thing hadn't happened."

She snorts. "Wing-thing? Is that what we're calling it?"

"What would you prefer? Pixi-geddon? The Butterfly Event?"

"I don't have butterfly wings."

"I know, they're pixie wings. But you have to admit that they look kind of similar."

"I have always thought that," she admits, taking another drink.

"Except that yours are really purple. I wasn't expecting that." Or how drawn to them I'd be. The moment they popped out of her back, all I could think about was how beautiful they were, and how perfectly they fit the gorgeous pixie.

"Most pixies have pink or purple wings," she points out.

"True."

"What colour are yours?" she asks.

"Blue." The answer slips out without a moment's hesitation, and I realise I like the idea of her knowing that about me.

She raises an eyebrow. "That's rare."

I shrug. "I've never really thought about it. That's just the colour they are. They're not as nice as yours, though."

"I'm sure they are." The way she says it makes me believe that she means it too.

"I'm sorry that you had to get your wings out in front of everyone. That can't have been great."

She glances away with what looks like tears in her eyes. "Not really, no." She clears her throat. "I guess we're just taught that we're supposed to keep
