Chapter Twenty-Two

Delilah

I slowly push Issac’s office door open. A woman who looks to be in her later forties greets me.

“Delilah?” she says as I walk in.

“Yes,” I say, nodding with a smile.

“Hi, I’m Doctor Sarah Lee,” she says, holding her hand out for me to shake it.

“It’s nice to meet you,” I say, shaking her hand.

“Like wise. Shall we have a seat?” she says, pointing to the two chairs in front of Issac’s work desk.

We make our way over to the chairs and sit, making ourselves comfortable. Dr. Lee is the first one to speak.

“So, I looked over your hospital records a little to give me an idea of your background, but I would like you to just tell me whatever you want. It can be about anything, the weather, your favorite food, anything. I want us to get comfortable with each other before we jump right in,” she begins. She takes me by surprise. Usually, therapist want to dig right into the nitty gritty.

“Oh uh. Okay,” I say, thinking of something to talk about. I clear my throat. “Um, I have a few horses,” I say, shrugging my shoulders, not knowing if that’s something worth talking about.

“That’s awesome, I do as well,” she smiles.

“Really?” I asked, surprised.

“Yup, her name is Chico. She’s a palomino. She’ll be six years old on the fourth of July,” she explains.

“I have a palomino also! Well, he was my mom’s actually. He’s almost 27 I say.”

“Wow, your mom must’ve taken excellent care of him. What about the others?” she asks.

“Um, there’s Wendy, she’s a bay, then Sugar, she’s a flea-bitten gray.

I’m not sure how old they are exactly. They’ve gotta be in their late teens. And then there’s my boy Roan. He’s my big, goofy boy. He’s a blue roan, hence the name” I chuckle.

“Very nice. I’m assuming you have a farm then?” she asks. My heart slowly drops, and my smile slowly slides off my face. Dr. Lee notices.

“Um, not anymore” I say. She nods.

“We can move on if you’d like,” she says.

“No, it’s okay. We can talk about it. I mean, I should you know?” I sigh.

“If you’re not ready to talk about it, then don’t push yourself,” she begins, but I stop her.

“I think I’m ready to talk about it, but I think I should start from the beginning,” I say to her, nodding my head. She gives me a little smile.

“Okay, I’m listening. Whenever you’re ready,” she smiles.

We talk for a few hours. I tell her about then the bullying I endured in high school, then about how I first met Issac. Obviously, I left a few parts out, unsure how much she knows about the club and what Issac is and does. We leave off at the part where I met Nathan and how I accidentally stumbled back into Issac’s life. That story is for next time.

We say goodbye and schedule an appointment for a week from now. As we part ways, I head into the clubhouse. As I walk in, I see all the guys hanging around chatting and drinking beers.
