In the first case, you can argue that the victim got something close to justice. She got a lot of money, and one of the boys was charged criminally. It’s likely that the other boys were expelled or suspended, but we’ll never know.

It’s yet to be seen if the victim in the second case will get any justice.

That said, no court battle can erase the damage that has been done or the years that have been taken from victims’ lives. During the time they should have been learning and being normal kids, they were suffering from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and talking to lawyers. They hadn’t done a thing to bring this on themselves, and most of the rapists were not criminally prosecuted. The girls in these cases deserve every ounce of justice they can get. However, I don’t want to give the impression that these proceedings can eliminate the pain or get a victim everything he or she wants.
