“I know your overgrown ass ready for Christmas,” my best friend Kari said with a scoffed. She hadn’t had any Christmas decorations up in her house. Since it was just her, she felt like she didn’t have to. I always told her it was only me as well, but I was going to go all out for Christmas. That was just me though.

I was visiting since she called and let me know I was all up Dalton’s ass not spending time with her. I had just seen her needy ass. We were so damn close, people always thought that we were sisters if they didn’t know. Some told us we looked like sisters.

We met when we were in the fifth grade when she and her family moved to Dill Oaks from Yearnin’ Paradise. She used to have an accent, but she been here so long she didn’t have it. Most people I’d met from Yearnin’ Paradise didn’t have an accent and some did.

Through the years we had our ups and downs, but that had never took away from our friendship. We could admit when we were wrong and walked away like nothing had happen. That’s what made our friendship stronger. I think God for this girl every day, because it is rare to find a genuine person like her in this world. One thing I didn’t do was take her for granted. She was everything and then some.

I laughed, leaning back on the couch. “Am I? Girl, I can’t wait for it. It feels like it’s taking too long to get here.”

Christmas was five days away, and I couldn’t wait. With it being my favorite holiday, I was going to get on everybody’s nerves. I always showed my kid side when it came to Christmas.

“And you get to spend it with Dalton. How is he anyway?”

I couldn’t help the smile that tug on my lips when I thought about Dalton. We had been joined at the hip since he came back into my life. I loved that so damn much and always looked forward to being with him. Since we ran into each other at the mall, he had been staying over at my house and the sex was too damn intense. I couldn’t seem to get enough of him. To me, it felt like we were making up for lost times.

“Dalton is great. He’s spending time with his family before we go to my parents for family night.”

“Ohh. Are you sure that’s a good thing? You know how your family feels about him.”

I exhaled deeply. “It’s best they get over how they feel. I had never felt any type of way about the way Dalton left. I knew he was only following his dreams.”

She snorted before rolling her eyes. “But he left you behind…”

I lowered my head to my chest. “I couldn’t have gone with him if I wanted to. He had to go through basic training all that other stuff they do in the military.”

“He could have sent for you when he was done,” she countered.
